New “Love Locks” Display Coming to Downtown Roseau
A beautiful new tradition is taking root in Downtown Roseau!
On October 4, join us at Tough Times for the grand opening of our very own Love Locks display—a symbol of connection, memory, and lasting love.

What Are Love Locks?
The tradition began in Europe, where couples would inscribe their names on padlocks and fasten them to bridges or gates, then throw away the key—symbolizing unbreakable love or cherished memories. Over time, this meaningful gesture spread across the globe, becoming a way for people to honor everything from romantic relationships to friendships, milestones, or loved ones lost. It’s now a trendy tourist activity to attach a lock at a bridge in Paris, a gate at Juliette’s Balcony in Verona Italy, or the Koln Bridge in Germany. It a global sensation, and everyone wants to be part of it.

💖 A New Tradition in Roseau
Thanks to the creative vision of Tough Times and support from the community, Roseau now has its own Love Locks Art Installation—right in the heart of downtown. It’s more than just a photo-worthy spot. It’s a place to leave your mark, tell your story, and celebrate connection. Tough Times owner, Darrin Smedsmo, brought in a vintage tractor to add a local spin on the Roseau Love Locks. Country songs have been telling us for years that tractors are “sexy,” so why not make them the symbols of a couple’s growing love or a strong bond or commitment? Maybe you love life or an adventure, and want to remember it. Join in the fun, we are not judging what your “love looks like.” So bring your paddle lock or pick one up in the shop, clip it on, and help adorn the tractor. Nothing says love like a vessel that’s been through hard work and grit, shows a little rust, and still has a small town charm.
