Oakcrest Golf Course

Hey guys, it’s Roman the Gnome coming back for another blog about a local attraction in Roseau!

Oakcrest Golf Course

I recently spent a day at the Oakcrest Golf Course, and let me tell you, it was fantastic. The course was in great shape, the weather was just about perfect, and the staff was extremely pleasant. Oakcrest Golf Course is located at 310 5th St. SE Roseau, Minnesota. Oakcrest has 18 holes, with the front nine being a links style course, and the back nine being a tight course with tree-lined fairways. The course is a par 71 with four sets of tees that range from 5054 yards to 6371 in order to challenge any golfer.

The clubhouse staff will welcome you when you arrive at Oakcrest. Oakcrest sells many souvenirs in the clubhouse, including sweatshirts and golf balls with an Oakcrest logo on them. They can also equip you with anything you may need on the golf course, including balls, clubs, gloves, bags, tees, you name it! If you decide to play a lot of golf at Oakcrest over the summer, then you can buy a membership to save yourself some money. Oakcrest has a large putting green and a full length driving range, along with golf carts and clubs available for rental. Other amenities include a full bar and an outdoor patio.

front 9 at Oakcrest

The front 9 at Oakcrest starts out with easy holes on 1 and 2. I actually made birdie on hole 2, but then hole 3 really hurt me. I thought I hit a great drive, but then it felt like the water hazard jumped out and grabbed my ball. I was sure I struck the ball with more than enough power to get over the water and then SPLASH, right in the water hazard. If you can hang on through holes 3, 4, and 5, the course gives you a few easy holes coming back in off the front 9. I birdied hole 6 and parred the rest of the holes on the front 9.

The back 9 starts with some tricky holes that give way to some birdie opportunities. I birdied hole 13, but then I almost hit it in the river on 14. I hit my best shot of the day on 15 and almost made a hole-in-one! I parred 16 and 17 and then I hit a great shot into the green on hole 18 to set up a birdie. It was the perfect end to my round!

Once I finished my round, I returned to the clubhouse to learn about some of the events that occur at Oakcrest golf course throughout the summer. I learned that there is a ladies’ league on Tuesday nights and a men’s league on Wednesday nights. The Roseau Youth Hockey Association hosts a very large scramble at Oakcrest in July as a fundraiser. Some other great tournaments at Oakcrest include the Polaris scramble and the Canola Growers scramble. Finally, Oakcrest plays its club championship on the last weekend in August. The championship includes three days of one-on-one matches that culminate into one championship match on Sunday afternoon that over 100 people watch every year.

Oakcrest is definitely a great place to spend a day. The clubhouse is stocked full of food and drink choices, friendly people, and great times. My day at Oakcrest included playing 18 holes, then stopping at the clubhouse for a pizza and a drink. You can find more information about Oakcrest through this link: https://oakcrestgolfcourse.com/. Overall, I really enjoyed my day at Oakcrest Golf Course, and I would recommend it to anyone passing through Roseau.
