WORKSHOP DETAILS:

FRIDAY:
Mantras for the Heart, Peace & Community + Gong Bath:
Bring your voice, intention, and attention to learn 4-5 beautiful mantras for the heart, peace, and community. Mantras are incredible tools to focus the mind, soothe the nervous system, and tune into our highest selves and spirits. We will chant call-and-response style. All voices welcome, and chanting is optional – you can also choose to listen and rest. This event will be recorded so all participants can have these mantras to chant at home and learn by heart.

Gong Bath:
It is said that the gong is the sound of the creation of the universe – the purest potential. The sound of the gong “re-tunes” us on many levels, bringing us into harmony and deep levels of inner peace. These sounds work on a cellular level to cleanse and detoxify, and does the same on an emotional level. (Be sure to drink plenty of pure water following the session.) Donations from heart will be accepted.

SATURDAY:
Therapeutic Yoga for Mental Health
In this workshop, we will discuss the basics of yoga therapy, and the therapeutic use of yoga. We will provide an introduction to Ayurveda as the conceptual basis for understanding therapeutic yoga. We then present, practice and discuss techniques for depression, anxiety and attention/concentration.

Introduction to Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is a practiced with the eyes close, as it is a technique for expanding your inner awareness. It uses postures, breath techniques, mudras, mantras and meditation to deepen your experience of YOU! In this workshop, we will learn more about the foundations of Kundalini Yoga, some take-home tools, and we will practice Kundalini Yoga & Meditation to open the heart center. Mary Bue will chant live with us for a mantra meditation for the heart.

VIniyoga: The beauty of breath-based asana
The ancient Sanskrit term Viniyoga means appropriate application, differentiation, and adaptation. This form of yoga, also known as the yoga of T.K.V. Desikachar, aims to speak to each individual’s goals whether they be for transformation, self realization, or greater health & flexibility. The tools used are asana (postures), pranayama (conscious breathwork), mantra, ritual, meditation, and study of texts. In the context of this workshop, we’ll primarily be focusing on Viniyoga’s distinct asana sequencing and breath-centered vinyasa as well as touch upon other methods to support the whole person in their growth and evolution.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:

MICHELE ANDERSON: For me, yoga is a tool in my toolbox. One that I can use to shift my perspective, re-orient myself to center, and continue to trust in the rhythm of the Universe. As I have grown my relationship with my breath, I can partner with it when needing to restore balance, and this has ultimately empowered me to take good care of myself. I really believe that the breath is our most powerful tool…and it is free! I am a E-RYT 200 with the Yoga Alliance and also a continuing education provider. I believe yoga has a unique way of allowing individuals to perceive their inner landscape and cultivate continued compassion for self. My teaching style blends my knowledge of energy anatomy, human physiology and psychology…sprinkled with humor, and I LOVE to play the Gong. My Yoga Training includes: Kundalini Yoga Level 1 TT (2010), Kundalini Yoga Level 2 Life Cycles (2011), Level 2 Mind & Meditation (2016) and Level 2 Stress & Vitality (2017), 1,000-hour Yoga Therapy training (estimated graduation 2020). Education Background: Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP), specializing in Psychiatry and Mental Health, University of Minnesota (2018); M.A. in Nursing, Augsburg College (2009); B.S. in Nursing, University of Minnesota (2004); Healing Touch Practitioner (since 2012). www.michele-yoga.com

MARY BUE: Mary Bue is a registered yoga teacher (e-RYT 500), an indie musician, and a teacher in the Viniyoga tradition, a breath-centered, flowing practice that believes in adapting postures to fit the whole person (not forcing a person to fit into a posture!). Mary received her certification at Whole Life Yoga in Seattle, WA by Tracy Weber, (student of Gary Kraftsow, student of T.K.V. Desikachar) and her 300 hour from Yoga Center Retreat (formerly Yoga Center of Minneapolis).
Mary is a performing musician and songwriter with her 8th album in the hopper and has just launched retreats in Minnesota and Bali!

She has pursued continuing yoga education in prenatal yoga, yoga for anxiety & depression, pranayama, and 30 hour certification in Trauma-informed Yoga with Firefly Yoga International. Mary was a teaching assistant for Whole Life Yoga’s ten month long, 200 hour teacher training in 2010 and has also assisted in WLY’s “Yoga for Healthy Backs” Series. She has her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis on Transpersonal Psychology from the University of Minnesota – Duluth. Mary has also received volunteer training in sexual assault victim advocacy from PAVSA and domestic violence victim support from DAIP. She founded and ran Imbue Yoga Studio in S. Mpls for 3 years (closing Jan. 2019). A lover of life, yoga, music, nature, running, vegan food, and the magic and mess that is being a human on this planet. The world is your lover! www.marybue.com
